Human Rights Day Celebration: Expressing Our Shared Values
Details
Honoring the Universal Declaration of Human Rights with creativity and conversation
Join us at SUNY Plattsburgh to celebrate Human Rights Day on Thursday, December 5, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Warren Ballrooms & Cardinal Lounge. This event will honor the signing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations in 1948, a historic milestone in the recognition of the inherent dignity and equality of all people.
To mark this occasion, we invite all faculty, staff, and students to reflect on what human rights mean to them personally and to express those thoughts through a decorated tri-fold display. This is a unique opportunity to share your ideas, creative interpretations, and understanding of human rights with our campus community.
Event Details:
- Date: Thursday, December 5
- Time: 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
- Location: Warren Ballrooms & Cardinal Lounge

How to Participate:
1. Create a tri-fold display that represents what human rights mean to you.
2. Tri-folds are available for free – come pick one up from my office in the HUB, Room 110H.
3. There are also art supplies available in the HUB for participants to use while decorating their tri-folds.
4. Bring your display to the Warren Ballrooms & Cardinal Lounge on December 5.
5. Join us for the walk & chat session, where you can engage with others about your work and learn from their perspectives.
This is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on how human rights impact your life, the world, and future generations. Whether you choose to showcase personal stories, artistic representations, or thought-provoking facts, your display will contribute to a campus-wide conversation on the importance of universal human rights and the ongoing work needed to protect and promote them globally.
Mark your calendars and let’s make Human Rights Day a day of reflection, dialogue, and community.
