This December, the Cultural Programming Committee & the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, invite all faculty, staff, and students to come together in the spirit of community and creativity for Winter Celebrations of the World. From Monday, December 2 to Thursday, December 5, explore the rich traditions and festive cheer that define the winter holidays across cultures.
Participants are encouraged to create a display that honors one or more of the following winter holidays:
- Las Posadas; a Latin American tradition celebrating the journey of Mary and Joseph
- Yule; a time of renewal, light, and nature’s cycles, celebrated in many cultures
- Winter Solstice; the longest night of the year, marking the return of the sun
- Christmas; the global celebration of Christ’s birth
- Hanukkah; the Jewish Festival of Lights
- Kwanzaa; a celebration of African heritage and culture
Whether you’re celebrating your own traditions or discovering new ones, we invite you to create a festive and meaningful display in a location of your choice across campus. Let your imagination soar as you highlight the unique customs, symbols, and stories of these winter holidays.
Here are the details:
- Date: Monday, December 2 – Thursday, December 5
- Locations: Displays can be set up in any area of your choosing on campus. Please get permission if you are using a space that is not yours.
- Vote for your favorite display: A hashtag will be shared closer to the event so you can follow along virtually. More information will be shared as the date draws closer for you to cast your vote for the most creative display!
