This spring, the SUNY Plattsburgh Department of Theatre is offering Clowning for Actors, a physical comedy workshop led by Brooklyn-based guest artist Michael Galligan.

Clowning is a theatrical form that places physical expression above words, presence above preparation, and being honest above being funny. In this workshop, performers will learn to not only live in "the flop," but embrace that place of failure through physical comedy and connection to the audience.

Michael Galligan, is an actor, producer, and teaching artist. His work has been developed and performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Cannonball Festival, PortFringe, 59E59 Theater and the Upper Jay Art Center. His solo clown show, BANANA, was called a "comedic tour de force" in a five-star review from The Interrobang's Top Comedy Picks of the 2023 Edinburgh Fringe. Michael is a Lead Teaching Artist with Irondale Center, as well as a Teaching Artist with the Classical Theater of Harlem, Queens Theater, and New York-Presbyterian Hospital's Lang Youth Medical Program. More information on Michael can be viewed at his website, www.michaelgalligan.com.

Clowning for Actors is scheduled for Saturday, February 21, 2026 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the Black Box Studio Theatre (Myers 129) in the John Myers Building. This event is free to SA Members, but space is limited. Please pre-register at our events site via Cardinal Link at https://campusgroups.plattsburgh.edu/musthe/events/.
