The Institute for Ethics in Public Life invites you to join us for "What Just Happened?", a discussion of the midterm election results at 3:30pm on Wednesday, November 11, in person or on Zoom with special guest Dr. Maggie Martin, Asst. Prof. of Political Science

The 2026 midterm election is shaping up to be incredibly consequential. Pre-election polling and early voting suggests that the Democratic Party is almost guaranteed to control the House in the next Congress and is currently favored to take control of the Senate as well. This opens the possibility that Congress will begin to reassert its prerogatives against Trump administration encroachment, serious Congressional oversight of the administration, and even impeachment of administration officials including the President himself.

The election is unlikely to be fully resolved for a while yet due to the time needed to count all the ballots cast (especially late arriving mail ballots) as well as the inevitable legal challenges to the results. That said, by Nov. 11 we should have a good sense of what happened and some indication of why.
