Wednesday, February 21st

  • Geology Club Craft Night
    • 5:00pm-6:00pm
    • Meeting Room 2, Angell College Center
    • Join the Geology Club for craft night! We will be making rock, fossil, and shell magnets with an assortment of polished tumbled rocks, ammonite fossils, and seashells! There's a limit of 15 people, so click HERE to reserve your spot. Reminder: We will be giving away prizes at the end of the semester to the Geology Club members that attend the greatest number of meetings and events.
  • 'Walk, Talk and Find Ways to Green Up Our Campus'
    • 5:00pm-6:30pm
    • Burghy's Den, Angell College Center
    • The Campus Committee for Environmental Sustainability invites students, faculty, staff, and community members to join a walking, talking and brainstorming session. We will gather in Burghy's Den, discuss the Green Grant program and tour the campus, looking for ideas to move us toward sustainability.
      Students who wish to pursue these ideas — or any of their own — may then apply for a Green Grant of up to $8,000 to make those changes. Paid for by the Campus Green Fee, these grants have helped fund various projects, including the campus garden, electric vehicle stations, a variety of speakers and various recycling efforts. For more information, contact Michelle Ouellette at ouel8653@plattsburgh.edu
  • Student Conservation Association - 2024 Career Discovery Internship Program Info Session
    • 4:00pm-5:00pm
    • Virtual
    • Please join the Student Conservation Association (SCA) for an upcoming info session to learn about our Career Discovery Internship Program for college students who are Black, Alaskan Native, American Indian, Asian/Pacific Islander, Hispanic, or other racial minority. Participants must be 1st or 2nd-year college students. Interns attend a week-long orientation held in May and serve in summer internships tailored to various U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service career tracks.
    • Current Opportunities:
      • Biology: Interns work with wildlife biologists and help with habitat restoration, invasive plant species inventory and removal, and animal monitoring.
      • Visitor Services: Positions contain a mix of interpretation, visitor center staffing, working with volunteers, and will generally assist with any and all refuge operational needs that may come up.
      • Maintenance/Refuge: Positions primarily focus on trail repair, maintenance, and all aspects of refuge management. Some light construction and structure repair (bridges, boardwalks) and campground maintenance.
    • Benefits include:
      • Weekly Living Allowance: $600 per week
      • Travel Allowance: $1,000
      • Housing provided by the Student Conservation Association or U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service
      • Assigned mentor from U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
      • Hands-On Experience
      • Expenses paid orientation in May
    • The ideal candidate is: Incoming college sophomores and juniors, available for a 12-13 week summer internship beginning in May, open-minded and has an adventurous spirit, not necessarily experienced in conservation, a licensed driver

  • Americorps - Explore Careers in Disaster Recovery w/ SBP
    • 1:00pm-1:45pm
    • Virtual
    • Our team at SBP is guided by a value called "The Mom Rule," where we go about our work as if it were our own family impacted by a disaster. Join staff to learn about careers in disaster recovery, why this is such rewarding work, and how you can add unlikely skills to your resume. We have short-term, entry-level opportunities through our AmeriCorps program or full-time jobs you could turn into a career. Learn how we are changing our country's broken disaster recovery system and how you can help be part of our work!

  • CEES Seminar Series - 'Radar Love OR How I Stopped Digging and Learned How to Use Physics to Understand Landscape Evolution'
    • 3:30pm-4:30pm
    • Hudson Hall Room 106
    • This lecture will feature Dr. Alan Gontz, professor of applied geology at Clarkson University. Throughout the presentation, Gontz will showcase several applications of geophysics through his own research at sites that include UNESCO World Heritage Sites, prominent archaeological sites and wetlands, lakes, rivers and dunes from around the world and in our own backyard.
