Tuesday, February 6th

  • Composting Training with Project HELP
    • 12pm to 1pm
    • Angell College Center Cardinal Lounge
    • SUNY Plattsburgh has been pre-composting and this semester will start post-composting. Volunteers are going to be needed within the new few weeks to help educate students about this effort in the dining halls. In order to volunteer for this, you must participate in this training. You will receive a community service hour for the training if you follow through with at least one of the volunteer commitments when they are offered. There will be many time slots to choose from. You MUST participate in this training in order to volunteer.
  • Cardinal Career Grants Workshop with the Career Development Center
    • 5pm to 6pm
    • Angell College Center Cardinal Lounge
    • Come to the workshop to learn more about the Cardinal Career Grants for fieldwork, internships, conferences, and more. Grant applications are due by February 15th. More details on the Career Development Center's website.
  • Free Money Game Show with the Student Association
    • 8pm to 9pm
    • Burghy's
    • Come join ACB with to watch and participate in a game show where you can win cash!

Wednesday, February 7th

  • Virtual Natural Resources and Agriculter Career Fair with the USDA
    • 12pm to 1pm

    • Find Your Future With Us! Drop in to learn about "Entry-Level" Natural Resource and Agriculture Related Job openings which are open the week of this event! We will highlight some information about these positions, their locations, and the best way to apply and be considered! Please note, this is intended for students and graduates who have a background, interest and degree in Biology, Natural Resources, Agriculture, and related sciences. Due to HR Requirements, applicants in non-science backgrounds will not be considered for the positions.
  • Virtural Hiring Webinar with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency

    • We are hiring! Join the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for a virtual hiring webinar on February 7, 2024, at 2 p.m. ET. You’ll hear from EPA Deputy Administrator Janet McCabe, EPA hiring specialists, and current EPA employees at the event. RSVP on Handshake for the event link. ASL and CART services will be provided. Never applied for a federal job before? No problem! You will learn how to navigate the federal job application process and unique hiring pathways for students and recent graduates.   • Backcountry Trails Program Information Session with AmeriCorps

    • Do you seek adventure and challenge in a spectacular outdoor environment while getting paid and kickstarting your career? The Backcountry Trails Program might be for you! Join program staff for a virtual information session to learn more about this unique AmeriCorps opportunity. We will be giving an overview of the program, what to expect during a Backcountry season, and how to apply. There will also be time for Q&A.

Thursday, February 8th

  • ***Environmental Scientist Guest Speaker with the Geology Club***
    • 6:30pm-7:30pm
    • Hudson 130 (unless otherwise specified)
    • Join the Geology Club for our first meeting of the semester, where we'll discuss the club's plans for the semester and hear from a local environmental scientist!
    • Tyler Bosley received his Bachelor's in Environmental Science from the University of Vermont and a Bachelor's in Ecology from Sterling College. He was a summer intern with the Clinton County Soil & Water Conservation District and has worked as an environmental consultant with KAS, Inc. in Plattsburgh for the last 6 years.
    • As a club, we will try something new this semester. We will track attendance and provide prizes to the members who attend the most events, so attend if you can! We haven't figured out all the details, but the prizes will likely include t-shirts, stickers, and more. We will also try to switch our weekly meeting times between Wednesdays from 5:00pm-6:00pm and Thursdays from 6:30pm-7:30pm. Keep an eye out for these weekly emails!

Friday, February 9th

  • Campus Involvement Fair
    • ​​​​​​​11am to 2pm
    • ​​​​​​​Angell College Center, Warren Ballrooms
    • Come join student leaders and promote your student groups.  This is a great event that takes place every semester for students to learn about all of the groups we have on campus and how to get more involved.
  • CEES Seminar - American Kestrel Nest Box Project with Mark Manske​​​​​​​
    • 3:30pm to 4:30pm
    • Hudson Hall 106
    • Mark Manske established Adirondack Raptor Inc. in 2008 and is the sole owner of the company.  He was a public school educator for27 years, an Adjunct Professor at Paul Smiths College from 2007 to 2012 and from 2015 to the present, a wildlife rehabilitator from 1994 through 2002, a master falconer since 2003, a master raptor bander since 1988, and a licensed nuisance wildlife control agent from 2008 through 2012.  Mark has also published stories in his column in the EMBARK, a periodical that is published every other month by the Adirondack Daily Enterprise in Saranac Lake.   He has published several articles on birds of prey in scientific journals through the years. Mark trained under the tutelage of Drs. Frederick and Frances Hamerstrom (graduate students of Aldo Leopold and world renowned biologists) in the early 1980s at the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point. Mark will discuss his twenty-three years of managing for American Kestrels in northern New York.  Over this time he has maintained a solid population in the North Country. For more information, contact Mark Lesser at 518-564-4139 or mless004@plattsburgh.edu.

Saturday, February 10th

  • Winter Fest 2024 with the Center for Student Involvement
    • ​​​​​​​1pm to 4pm
    • Hawkins Pond
    • ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Join us for an afternoon of fun around the Hawkins Pond! We are looking for members of the campus community that want to participate in the Burrrrrghy Polar Plunge into the pond. All participants are asked to collect and bring food donations to benefit the Cardinal Cupboard (our on campus food pantry). Chartwells will match every food item with one meal voucher for Clinton Dining Hall up to 75 vouchers that will be given to students in need through the Cardinal Cupboard.
      • If you plan to participate in the Burrrghy Polar Plunge, please fill out the registration form and bring a change of clothes, a towel and an extra set of shoes. You have to wear a shoes to do the plunge
      • There will also be a photo booth, music, hot chocolate, waffles, a fire, rutabaga curling and more....we hope to see you there!

Sunday, February 11th

  • Club and Organization Officer Training
    • The officers of all clubs and organizations on campus will be meeting for a mandatory training session that takes place each semester. We will review the basics of the Student Association, Clubs and Organization Affairs Board, policies and procedures and review what not to do. And a refresher on cardinal link and mandatory Title IX and DEI training.
  • Public Ice Skating
    • 11:30am to 2:30pm
    • Stafford Ice Arena in the Field House
    • The SUNY Plattsburgh Department of Athletics and Recreation will host public skating at the Stafford Ice Arena in the field house. Admission is $3 for the public and free for SUNY Plattsburgh students with valid college ID. Skate rentals are $3 for the public and free for students.
